Lots of good historical stuff here. Bottom line: Putin's hold on Russia is largely
dependent on the military and the security police. Meaning that so long as Russia
remains an economic shithole, Putin's levers of power remain tenuous at best.
As a result, if the economy does not recover in the near term, we might very likely
see the Russian military asserting itself again in an attempt to topple Putin's reign.
