Party is an organized con-job. But I'll let bloggers like driftglass explain the
wherefores and whys people like Joe didn't/wouldn't/couldn't get this figured
out years and years ago.
Suffice to say, it's a remarkable and welcomed development that a Republican
like Joe Scarborough is hoping that the GOP may soon become an ugly memory.
But I'm not holding my breath. The GOP's rabidly racist base are not going away
anytime soon and they want blood--from liberals, and black/brown people, and
Muslims, and gays and virtually anyone else who stands in their way.
So...no laurel resting please. We must work to get out the vote in 2018 and 2020
and every election cycle thereafter to create a super-majority in Congress and in
state legislatures. That's the only way to ensure that the Republican party will
either reconstitute itself into a normal, rational political entity or simply die
trying.
